Dear District 10 Residents & Friends,
intro pic

·       Governance Audit Subcommittee (chaired by John Clamp) 1st Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. This commitee monitors and reviews the results of the city's audit plan.

·        Public Safety (chaired by Councilman Rodriguez) 2nd Wednesday of each month at 10:00 a.m. in Plaza C room.

This committee oversees policies related to: Police Department, Fire Department, Emergency Operations, law enforcement and Homeland Security.

You're Invited to the

Semmes Library Flag Installation Ceremony

In honor of Texas Independence Day and Texas Flag Day, Councilman John G. Clamp is hosting a U.S. and Texas State flag installation ceremony at Semmes Library.semmes library

The Semmes Library will be the first library in District 10 to be honored with the installation of the Texas state flag.  On Friday, February 29, 2008 at 9:00a.m. Councilman John G. Clamp, in collaboration with the James Madison High School color guard and San Antonio Firefighter Nat Batson singing the national anthem, will host a symbolic flag raising ceremony in honor of Texas Independence Day and Texas Flag Day.

Semmes Library is the fifth library in San Antonio to receive a Texas state flag.  The Central, Memorial, John Igo and Great Northwest Branch Libraries were the first libraries to receive this honor.  The ceremony at Semmes Library was initiated by Mr. Sammons, a constituent of District 10 and member of the Semmes Library.

The Semmes Library has been operating for two years and serves the Northeast part of San Antonio including the schools in the North East Independent School District.  At the age of 80, Mrs. Semmes developed macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in Americans over 55.  In 2000, the Semmes Foundation donated $1 million to the San Antonio Public Library to create a special collection, including books and equipment, for the visually impaired.  The Semmes Foundation has pledged an additional $250,000 for materials and equipment for the Semmes Branch at Comanche Lookout Park.

Councilman Clamp believes that this flagpole ceremony will initiate a precedence to install flagpoles at all San Antonio libraries.

"I'm honored to have our city install the flags symbolizing freedom, sacrifice and patriotism.  We should all be very proud of this accomplishment and I look forward to installing additional flags at other library locations," stated Councilman Clamp.

Texas gained independence on March 2, 1836, and the flag was adopted on January 24, 1839, as the national flag of the Republic of Texas.  When Texas became the 28th state in 1845 the national flag became the Texas state flag.  The Texas flag represents what Texans pride themselves on: loyalty, strength and bravery.

SAPD ATV

atvs

In 2007, the District 10 office allocated funding for the purchase of two All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) units for the San Antonio Police Department North SAFFE division.  The officers use these units to patrol greenbelts, drainage easements and undeveloped parcels of land for any unauthorized activities.  These units offer the police officers a more efficient means to investigate and patrol secluded areas.  Each officer has to complete a 4-hour Law Enforcement ATV course before they are allowed to patrol on these units.

In these pictures, you will see Officer J. Dave McDonald (on the green ATV) and Officer Steve Heathcock (on the yellow ATV) patrolling an undeveloped area.

Julia Yates Semmes Branch Library, 15060 Judson Road, 650-9540

Join artist, Deborah Keller-Rihn, at the Julia Yates Semmes Library to learn about the story of the Buddhist goddess, Tara. Take a walk in the beautiful natural environment surrounding the library and learn how to make a sand mandala, a beautiful and unique art form in the Tibetan tradition. After the story of Tara, Ms. Keller-Rihn will demonstrate the making of a mandala and then each participant will create one.  Ms. Keller-Rihn will photograph the finished works and obtain e-mail addresses to send participants their files.  Mandalas are typically destroyed at the end to make a point about the impermanence of all things.

All ages welcome!   Wear your walking shoes!  Free and open to the public.
