Traffic and Crime Update

I am sending out this newsletter as a quick "Traffic and Crime Update" as I feel these issues are important and impact our daily lives.

Traffic congestion is an issue on everyone's mind.  As we are all aware, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is currently working on the Loop 410 expansion project and will continue to do so for many more years.  Beginning last week, the traffic in the area of the airport interchange and Loop 410 has become more congested.  Please allow extra time if you will be traveling in this area and if possible, you may want to take an alternate route.  You can view current road conditions on the City's website at www.sanantonio.gov and on TxDOT's web site at www.dot.state.tx.us/travel/road_conditions2.htm.  See below for more information.

Airport & TxDOT Team Up to Inform Passengers of Construction Closure

Telephone hotline and website created to advise citizens of highway and airport road conditions

The partnership between San Antonio International Airport and the Texas Department of Transportation took a major step forward today in an effort to maximize public outreach during the Airport construction. Two new information features have been implemented for citizens to inquire about current construction that will affect travel in and around the Airport.  These features include:

  • A telephone hotline number (979-7275) that will inform drivers of road construction taking place at both the airport itself and along U.S. 281 and Loop 410 near the airport.
  • A link to TxDOT information has been added on the San Antonio International Airport's website under the tab "How to get to the airport." This information will be updated on a regular basis and will be customized according to direction. Both the airport and TxDOT feel that getting this information to the public is vital in the effort to minimize any headaches associated with construction, especially since much of the upcoming work is going to focus on the Airport Blvd.

This upcoming construction includes a major closure slated for this weekend (January 26 and 27.)  During this time, Loop 410 will be closed entirely along the airport area.  Traffic will be shifted to the frontage roads and motorists will be advised to expect major delays. Giving the public advanced notice of these types of closures is a primary focus for both TxDOT and the City's airport personnel.

Crime Update

With the recent spike in crime, I would like to remind everyone to keep "crime prevention" a part of our daily lives.  Crime prevention tips may be located at the San Antonio Police Department's web site at www.sanantonio.gov/sapd/CrimePrevention.asp#tips and the

National Crime Prevention Council website: www.ncpc.org/.  If you have children and/or grandchildren you may want to visit McGruff, the Crime Dog, at www.mcgruff.org, for helpful tips and children's activities.

We will have more specific crime statistics in the near future.
